Choosing Your Home

Now comes the fun part. All those months and weeks and perhaps years dream-scrolling through real estate postings are over. Now you’re really looking.

You’ll want to visit different homes and properties with your real estate agent, ask tons of questions, visit the neighborhood at night, sit at the corner café, and even maybe go to a school PTA meeting if you have children or plan to have children. Bring your camera to take photos of potential properties you like (if you’re visiting many open houses, properties can blur together), and if you fall in love and the price is right, get ready to make an offer.

Your real estate agent can help you understand what a competitive offer might be for a given neighborhood and may suggest you include a personal letter along with your offer.

Don't forget to...

Before you make an offer, you might also want to check out little details that often get missed. Is the water pressure good? Do all the electrical switches work? What do the other houses in the neighborhood look like? Who will your future neighbors be (say hello!)? What’s traffic like? How loud does it get at night?

Making An Offer

Your real estate agent can also help you understand the market and neighborhood so that you price your offer competitively. During the negotiation process, your offer will either be accepted, rejected for another offer, or a counteroffer might be made. When negotiating your offer, remember that you’ll still need enough money for closing costs.

Never miss a thing.
